Flagstaff Vice Mayor Adam Shimoni Endorses Charlie Odegaard for Mayor
"Councilmember Charlie Odegaard has the experience, compassion and integrity to be Flagstaff's next Mayor. His efforts on both the Water Commission and City Council provide him the understanding of how the City works and the role of the Mayor. Through his efforts on Council, Charlie has been instrumental in moving the City forward on large projects such as the 4th Street Bridge, Rio De Flag and the City's plan to address the Pension Liability. He supports the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) and has consistently advocated for the establishment of a youth commission. He understands the role of the public and respects voter approved initiatives. When working through challenging topics, he has an open mind and an open heart. He doesn't let politics or outside pressures play into his decision, and takes the time to listen to those with opposing points of view. The role of Mayor is to facilitate the conversation where all perspectives are welcome and heard while guiding the City forward. I have confidence that Charlie will do just that." - Flagstaff Vice Mayor Adam Shimoni

AZ Daily Sun Question #2 on July 19th
What do you see as the effects of vacation rentals on the community and should the city seek to regulate them. If so, how?
State of Arizona law SB 1350 prevents communities putting ordinances in place to prevent short-term rentals. In May of last year the Arizona legislature passed HB 2672 which gave communities limited authority to regulate short-term rentals of residential properties and imposed additional legal requirements on the owners and managers of short-term rentals. I brought this opportunity up to our city attorney in February of this year for the City of Flagstaff to pass a Resolution and an Ordinance that ties our city codes to what the state has allowed. This will give our police officers and our code compliance officers the tools they need to bring in compliance of short-term rentals to be good neighbors in our community. The city attorney has assured me that we as a council body will be voting on a proposed Resolution/Ordinance this fall.

AZ Daily Sun Question #1 on July 12th
What is the most important reason you are running for Flagstaff City Council or Mayor?
I love our community. As a third generation business owner in Flagstaff and a member of Flagstaff City Council since 2016 I love serving you. I’m taking a huge risk by running for Mayor instead of rerunning for council, but after talking to so many of our residents, they were looking for a choice. In 2016, I did not run on any promises other than to provide good governance. We saw promises made by other candidates in 2016 and promises are being made today that will fall short. I have a record of getting things done and I will promise you a continuation of providing good governance for all. Now in time of COVID it will be essential to provide professional leadership as we move forward in our recovery economically and socially as a community.

Councilmember Charlie Odegaard Running for Mayor-City of Flagstaff
Councilmember Charlie Odegaard, third generation Flagstaff small business owner of Odegaard’s Sewing Center, has announced he is running for Mayor of the City of Flagstaff.
“I am very grateful for the tremendous support I received from people across the community when I was exploring the idea of running. Now it is official!” said Councilmember Odegaard. He also said, “I know that now is the time for someone with deep roots in Flagstaff who listens and talks to everyone to lead our city”.
Councilmember Charlie Odegaard was first elected in 2016 to serve a four-year term. He serves on the Flagstaff Metro Planning Executive Board because transportation infrastructure has been one of his priorities. He worked hard with agency partners to ensure that the Fourth Street Bridge Expansion project over I-40 gets underway in Spring 2020.
“The City Council has undertaken many important projects and adopted policies and ordinances in the last three years but at the end of the day the most important things is that as Mayor I will continue to listen to and care about everyone,” said Councilmember Odegaard.
